1. Introduction

Welcome to Studify (formerly StudyWise) ("we," "our," or "us"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring the security of your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our educational platform and AI-powered tutoring services.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Personal Information

When you create an account, we collect:

  • Email address
  • Name (optional)
  • Profile picture (optional)
  • Authentication credentials (passwords are stored hashed; sign-in via Google or GitHub uses your account with that provider)

2.2 Educational Content

We collect and store:

  • Chat conversations with our AI tutors
  • Questions you ask
  • Study materials you generate (study guides, reference sheets, flashcards, etc.)
  • Files you upload for educational purposes

2.3 Usage Information

We automatically collect:

  • Device information (browser type, operating system)
  • IP address and general location
  • Pages visited and features used
  • Time and date of your visits
  • Session duration

2.4 Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies to:

  • Maintain your session and keep you logged in
  • Remember your preferences and settings
  • Analyze usage patterns and improve our services
  • Provide personalized learning experiences

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the collected information to:

  • Provide Services: Deliver AI-powered tutoring and generate personalized educational content
  • Improve Platform: Analyze usage patterns to enhance features and user experience
  • Communication: Send important updates about your account and our services
  • Security: Protect against unauthorized access and fraudulent activity
  • Compliance: Meet legal obligations and enforce our terms of service

4. Third-Party Services

4.1 Authentication

We use Better Auth, running on our own servers, for authentication and session management. If you choose to sign in with Google or GitHub, that provider processes your sign-in according to its own privacy policy and shares your basic profile information (such as your email address and name) with us.

4.2 AI Services

We use the following AI providers to power our tutoring services:

  • OpenAI: GPT models for conversational AI tutoring
  • Google AI: Gemini models for additional AI capabilities
  • Vercel AI: AI infrastructure and tools

Your conversations may be processed by these services to generate responses. We do not share personally identifiable information with AI providers beyond what's necessary for service delivery.

4.3 Hosting and Infrastructure

We use Vercel for hosting and Vercel Postgres on Neon for database services. Your data is stored securely in accordance with industry standards.

4.4 Search Services

We use Exa Search API to provide web search functionality within the platform.

4.5 File Uploads

We use UploadThing for secure file upload and storage functionality.

4.6 Support and Feedback

We use Tawk.to for the Feedback, Roadmap, and Changelog on our Support page, and for our support messenger. Tawk.to loads on most of our pages (all except the pages inside a subject, such as the subject home page, chats, and study materials) for every visitor, signed in or not, so Tawk.to receives technical information such as your IP address, browser, device, and the page you are on. When you are signed in, we share your name, email address, account ID, and profile picture (if you have one) with Tawk.to so it can identify you. Tawk.to also receives the messages you send through the support messenger, and these messages are processed by Margo Page, our AI support bot powered by Tawk.to, to help answer your questions.
